PLASTIC BAG | RAMIN BAHRANI

Struggling with its immortality, a discarded plastic bag ventures through the
environmentally barren remains of America as it searches for its maker.

Watch it.

The best entry of Futurestates, a whole series of films commissioned by ITVS.
Plastic Bag is a confident and polished piece of art that successfully navigates these two simultaneous threads:
the interior and the exterior, humanity and nature, the particular and the enviromental.

Yoriyos - Endoscopises (Ron Winter)

I made my own way - a long long time ago
Packed a book and pen - to draw up my own road
It started with a line - and to the distance I went
But I never thought I'd ever end up where I have...

Ape School - Wail To God (Anthony Schepperd)

Violence, robots and mountains of boobs.

The video, animated by Anthony F. Schepperd for Ape School, casts a primitive and psychedelic lesson of the basest emotions between lust, joy and desperation, as a vest-clad ape-man fumbles his tenuous place in society with more primitive, animistic compulsions. A brush-up with a bimbo begets run-ins cops, batons, and a reassuring robot. It's a vibrant, painstakingly illustrated, imperfectly primal, and viscerally told story, ending happily in a towering forest of Dr. Seuss-like tit trees. Somewhere between Fritz the Cat and all those ape attacks in the news, "Wail To God" is bizarre, and a perfect distillation of what the Ape School course pack is about.

Leto A - Moya Moskva (Danny Salkhov)

Lights and puppet.

Vimeo

Stop motion & light painting video from Danny Salkhov for the Song's called "My Moscow" by Alla Vartanyan, The song tells the love story with Moscow city, and it's what inspired Danny, after been in Europe and USA,  he's still in love with Moscow like with no other city in the world. When planning locations for shooting, he tried to picture all the places he love there, and not to fall in the cliché like Red Square and Bolshoi Theatre.

The song was written by a friend of Danny, Alla. She studies economy at the state university, and he study cinematography. 2 years ago he picked up a guitar, and since that time he was playing a bit, nothing serious. One day she told him she wrote a song about Moscow and she wanted to record it. Danny helped her, he played acoustic & electric guitars. The song was recorded at a friend's little home studio, on a cheap equipment, the guitar solo in the song was the first solo he wrote in his life...
Anyway, song became quite popular among their friends and the friends of their friends, and somewhere at that time, Danny thought it'll be great to make a video for this song full of soul and warmth. He kept it as a secret from Alla, to make it a birthday present for her.

Danny always liked directing music videos, and he had some background with that, but the stop motion & light painting was a new experience.
The central "hero" of the video is a puppet which Alla made herself and presented to Danny like 3 years ago.
They took a new Canon 5D Mark II with a mix of modern Canon lenses and some very old soviet-times lenses (they are easily identified with a weird bokeh) and 6 flashlights. It took them 7 days (evenings actually) to shoot this. It was quite cold in Moscow, below 0 celcius, but they were too busy and had too much fun running for hours with flashlight across Moscow streets.

They were shooting chronologically and it's visible that video becomes better towards it's end, because they were gathering experience during shooting :).

Thanks Danny.
